Default Univa Grid Engine?

According to your homepage, the latest DPS installer has "preliminary changes aimed at transitioning from SGE to Univa Grid Engine". Does this mean you are moving completely from the open source and free SGE to Univa Grid Engine? If we plan to utilize distributed computing capabilities do we need to purchase and setup a Univa based grid? Is there any more information available regarding the future of this transition? Thanks.

Default Re: Univa Grid Engine?

Hi,

SGE is not open source or free anymore it is now known as Oracle Grid Engine (OGE). The open source and free version has been forked to Univa Grid Engine (UGE) which is considered to be the future version of Grid Engine used by Pipeline. However it doesn't mean that Pipeline will stop working with SGE, but please note that SGE will not have any new updates. The latest version is and will remain 6.2u5.

We are currently preparing and testing DPS as well as the UGE for our future servers and after tests are successful, it will be our recommendation to switch to UGE. So if you plan to setup a grid engine, you will be recommended to start with UGE.

Thanks,
Petros

Thanks for the response. We are currently evaluating using the pipeline framework and if so we'll be sure to head the UGE route from the start.
